Project WASP
Atmospheric-water self-irrigating planter
WASP (Watering Atmospheric Self-Irrigating Planter) is a fully autonomous plant-care system that harvests freshwater from the air to irrigate plants. Presented at ISEF 2023, it pairs a dehumidifier with sub-irrigation, UV grow lighting, and a moisture-sensor feedback loop to sustain a plant with no human intervention.
Highlights
- Harvests atmospheric water with a built-in dehumidifier — a sustainable, pollution-free freshwater source
- IoT moisture-sensor + pump feedback loop holds soil moisture within ~100 points of a target; UV lighting mimics daylight patterns
- All components housed in custom 3D-printed bodies, with a touchscreen UI for per-plant profiles
- Proof-of-concept autonomously sustained cactus, basil, and rosemary; ISEF 2023 finalist (St. Paul Academy, advisor Dr. Kate Lockwood)
